No one thought Trump could do it. Perhaps not even Trump himself thought he could do it. But when the former reality TV star became the 45th President Of The United States, he paved the way for others to follow in his footsteps. Is it wise for America to appoint another resident of Tinseltown to the role of POTUS? Probably not. Could it actually happen? That remains to be seen.
Although we haven’t got a crystalball to gaze into to revealwhich politician, realityTV star, Oscar-winner or popstar could behiring a moving van and heading to the White House in the future, what we can do is show you the celebrities who America believes have a strong chance of running for the most powerful role in the United States, if not the world. Basing our evidence on past polls, here are the famous faces America would be running down to the polling station to vote for.
1. Ellen DeGeneres
Core skill set: Ellen genuinely seems to care about making other’s lives better, has some sick dance moves and would approach all G20 summits with a killer – and much-needed– sense of humour.
Professional experience: Although the talk show host has little genuine political experience, she is said to have done more in influencing people’s opinions on LGBT rights than any other American. She’s also raised awareness for HIV sufferers and campaigned for animal rights. Oh, and she’s good friends with Obama, so we’re sure he could throw a few tips her way when she’s stumped.
What would America look like under her presidency?:The beloved comedian reportedly gave $40,000 to Democrats in 2016 alone, leaving us to easily guess where her political allegiance lies. She has spoken out in the past against Trump’s travel ban, potentially meaning that welcoming refugees would be a big thingfor her, as well as making sure persecuted members of society are treated fairly. Oh, and every American would surely be pencilled in to have a good ‘ol dance session every Friday at 3pm.
Why do you want to be president, Ellen?: Urm, sadly Ellen actually has no interest whatsoever in America’s top job. When she was US’s number one pick for president in a poll, she responded by saying:”Thank you, and not interested. That sounds like the worst job in the world to me.” Oh well…
Core skill set: In the past, the Gold Digger star has claimed to be a “living God”. Think about it for a second, could we really get much better than God as president? On the other hand, the God in human form is also rather prone to acting out, with the occasional bizarre Twitter rant and insanely rude interruption when other stars win awards. We’re not so sure Taylor Swift would be crazy about a 2020 West run. Professional experience:Kayne, who is a big supporter of black rights, has previously met with President Trump to discuss the “multicultural issues” he cares about such as “bullying, supporting teachers, modernising curriculums, and violence in Chicago.” He also spends a lot of time giving bizarre political speeches, more often than not talking about himself in the third person. What would America look like under his presidency?: The US would find “the truth” under President West’s reign, whatever that means anyway. From his music lyrics, we’re guessing that gun crime, equal rights and the legalisation of drugs are top of his list for reform. Why do you want to be president, Kayne?: In spite of his, um, interesting monologue while announcing he would run for president onstage at the MTV Music Video Awards in 2015, the rapper has claimed he would like to have the top role so he could make a worthwhile difference in the world, saying:“If there is anything that I can do with my time and my day, to somehow make a difference while Im alive, Im going to try to do it.” It’s also worth noting that if America did vote for Kayne, it would make the most phenomenal series of Keeping Up With The Kardashians yet. All hail First Lady Kim?
3. Tom Hanks
Core skill set:Tom is famous for his films, but also for being the nicest guy in Hollywood, and is always willing to help someone out or take a selfie with a fan. He’s also creative, determined and gets good results, as can be seen in all of your favourite films. Professional experience:Seemingly one of the mostdown-to-earth stars out there, America bloody loves Tom Hanks. That’s enough of a qualification to run for president these days, right? What would America look like under his presidency?: Tom proclaimed in a recent speech that Americans will turn their country into a “thing of beauty”. Judging on his past political record, “beauty” under a Hank’s government appears to bestrongly based on same-sex marriage, environmental causes, andalternative fuels. Why do you want to be president, Tom?:Although the Democrat movie star was jokingly asked to be the Rock’s running mate in 2020, Tom himself isn’t quite sold on the whole idea of becoming vice president, saying: “Just because I’m an actor, I can give a good speech, I agree with that. But the concept of actually voting for someone just because they can do that?” Trust us Tom, we love you enough to vote for you even without a decent speech.
4. Oprah Winfrey
Core skill set:America’s number one agony aunt is everyone’s best friend, but that doesn’t mean she’d be giving into Putin’s every demand. As anyone who has watched her shows will know, Oprah is strong,an excellent problem solver and is willing to put in the hours to truly make America great again. Professional experience: The Queen of daytime TV’s proudest achievement is opening a boarding school in South Africa for academically gifted girls from impoverished backgrounds. As well as donating millions to various charities and organisations, she also campaigned for Obama in 2008, with many speculating that her support may have clinched him the election. What would America look like under her presidency?:Oprah’s ability to influence others with her opinions and endorsements has previously been dubbed “The Oprah Effect”. Would we see more of a united America under her reign? Why do you want to be president, Oprah?: We’ll probably never know if President Winfrey could have been the one to bring together Americans, as she has time and time again insisted that the role is just not for her, saying:“No, that won’t be happening, but I mean, I did used to think, ‘Well gee’, you had to know so much more than I thought you had to know.’”
5. Caitlyn Jenner
Core skill set: Caitlynis practically fearless, not to mention the politically conservative 67-year-old is also considered by many to be the “world’s greatest athlete”. Although we’re not wholly certain the latter would help her out in office. Professional experience: As one of the world’s most famous transgender women, Caitlyn has had her fair share of fighting for what she believes in and has positioned herself as the face of the transgender movement. Despite this, has little other political experience. What would America look like under her presidency?:The lifelong Republican’s policies would be somewhat uncertain as she’s been known to change her mind on certain issues, with her admitting that she didn’t support same-sex marriage before coming out as transgender. Why do you want to be president, Caitlyn?: The father of Kylie and Kendall has claimed she wants to get into politics to do “a better job”. Over the next six months or so I gotta find out where I can do a better job,” she said. “Can I do a better job from the outside working the perimeter of the political scene, being open to talking to anybody, or are you better off from the inside? We are in the process of determining that. But yeah, I would look for a senatorial run.
6. Will Smith
Core skill set: He’s a true Prince, who isn’t opposed to Getting Jiggy With It from time to time. Oh, you mean presidential skills? Professional experience:As one of the world’s highest paid movie stars, Will has come far. Could he possibly go from West Philadelphia to Bel Air… to the White House? What would America look like under his presidency?: The Fresh Prince has always shown liberal leanings, with his support for gay marriage and speaking out about Islamophobia. During his promotion of 2015 film Concussion, he stated he was inspired to defend the ideals that help build such a beautiful country, like the American Dream. Why do you want to be president, Will?:“If people keep saying all the crazy kinds of stuff theyve been saying on the news lately about walls and Muslims, theyre going to force me into the political arena. I mean, I gotta be the president. What else would I run for? Come on!” Smith told the CBS Sunday Morning. Weeks later, he maintained he was only joking, but there’s no doubt a lot of people would welcome President Smith to the role.
7. Dwayne Johnson
Core skill set: Dwayne is a natural leader and has success in every path he has taken so far in life, whether it be acting, wrestling or producing. Can he make a success of POTUS as well? Professional experience: The Independent party voter is not technically qualified to become president, but which one of these celebrities honestly is? He does, however, have experience speaking at political National Conventions and has worked with at-risk and terminally ill children at theDwayne Johnson Rock Foundation. What would America look like under his presidency?: TheRock is a big fan of the US militaryso we’re guessing they’d get a lot of his attention, he hasnt however given an outright opinion on nuclear weapons, ISIS, North Korea, or health care – so we will see what happens if he takes his presidency bid further. What we do know is that he jokingly promised three-day weekends and no taxes. He’s got my vote… Why do you want to be president, Rock?: The Rock is passionate about America, stating:“I care DEEPLY about our country and the idea of one day becoming President to create real positive impact and global change is very alluring.”
Core skill set: TheUnited StatesAir Forceveteran boasts a calm and collected demeanour, can speak fluent French and has an astounding voice that everyone would no doubt sit up and listen to. Professional experience:Freeman now has portrayeda topleader inall three branches of the U.S. government;President Beck in 1998sDeep Impact,Congressional leader, Speaker of the House Trumbull, in 2013sOlympus Has Fallen and “Senator” in 2015’s Momentum. Oh, you meant real life experience? Erm… What would America look like under his presidency?: Morgan has supported both Obama and Clinton in the past, leading us to believe he is a firm Democrat; he has also donated millions of dollars to educational programs, formed PLANIT NOW, an organisation that provide resources for people living in areas afflicted by hurricanes and severe storms and has given many interviews about the rights of black people. Why do you want to be president, Morgan?: Again, another one who isn’t keen on politics, despite America’s rallying calls for him to become POTUS. Morgan said in an interview a few years ago: “I’m an actor, not a politician.” That’s the end of that one then. So there you have it, the famous faces America is begging to run for the highest post in the country, whether they’re keen on the idea or not. Would you cast your vote in favour of any of these famous faces? Or are you hoping and praying that we stick to qualified politicians?
